Transmisión Vertical de Precios en el Sector de la Carne Vacuna en Argentina
Abstract
This study addresses the issue of price transmission at different levels in the Argentina’s beef industry. Previous research has suggested that the process of price transmission in the beef supply chain is asymmetric, with input price increases passed on more rapidly and completely than input price decreases. A threshold cointegration approach was used to test empirically the price transmission process. The results support the hypothesis that prices moved asymmetrically in the period analyzed, with price increases transmitted faster than price decreases. The study has important implications for the participants in the beef market and for public policy in the Argentina’s beef sector.
